Welcome to Moves For A Mission SUPPORT US In a world where children face various challenges, "Moves For A Mission" a 501(c)(3) charity was founded by a single chess enthusiast, Raza Mikal Patel, who wanted to make a difference for his peers in need. He explains the inspiration behind the charity, the research that shaped its vision, and the importance of using chess as a vehicle for change.

Inspiration

The idea for Movesforamission sprouted during a school social event in 2022, where Raza wanted to raise money for a charity that was in deep need by playing chess games with others attending the event for a cost.  The success of this event then morphed into the deep desire to make a difference on a larger scale and to help other charities that supported children in need.  Inspired by the strategic thinking and problem-solving skills chess nurtures, Raza decided to organize chess events to raise funds and awareness for children in need, combining his passion with purpose.

Research Behind my Initiative

The Benefits of Chess: Studies have shown that chess improves cognitive skills, enhances concentration, and fosters critical thinking. Research from organizations like “Chess in the Schools” indicates that children who play chess perform better academically and develop resilience and patience.

Youth Participation in Charity: Research highlights the positive impact of youth-led initiatives on community engagement. According to the “Points of Light Foundation” children who participate in charity work develop leadership skills and a sense of social responsibility, empowering them to effect change.

Creating Community through Play: Organizing chess events not only raises funds but also builds community. Events provide a platform for children from diverse backgrounds to come together, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging. This interaction can break down social barriers and promote inclusivity

Why I am doing this and why does it matter?

  1. Empowering Young Leaders: Movesforamission empowers children to take charge of their community’s needs through chess. By organizing events, they learn valuable skills in event planning, teamwork, and fundraising, instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility.

  2. Direct Support for Peers: Funds raised through chess tournaments and workshops go directly to providing resources for children in need, such as educational materials, scholarships, health related services, and after-school programs. This tangible support can make a significant difference in their lives.

  3. Promoting Mental Well-Being: Chess is not just a game; it’s a means of promoting mental well-being. By engaging children in constructive and challenging activities, Movesforamission helps to provide a positive outlet for stress and fosters a sense of achievement and confidence.

  4. Inspiring Future Generations: By highlighting the power of youth involvement in charity, Movesforamission serves as a model for future generations. It shows that children can be agents of change and encourages them to use their interests and talents to support their peers.
